I stopped coming in a few years ago and I came in about 6 months ago and all I can say is wow. When I stopped coming, the shelves were empty, employees were rude, the store was a disaster zone, and it was all around terrible. My mom has always been a loyal shopper through thick and thin so I decided to go with her a few months back and boy what a change. First thing you notice coming in is the overall appearance. The store is clean, open, stocked, and inviting. Second thing is the service, to say world class is an understatement. The store manager, Ben lacone, is a hell of a force. He is intense but he guarantees you have the best shopping experience every time you walk in. My mom wanted some Fingerlings for my kids but he was out, most would stop there, he didn't. He called 13 stores until he was able to find the ones for us. Most managers won't even walk their own floor. The other employees are just as committed to the world class customer experience. My mom gets her items carried out to her car every single trip no matter if she spends a dollar or a hundred. Today I walked in with my mom and an elderly lady was barely able to walk came in. Ben was clearly in the middle of 528 things but showing no signs of stress, dropped everything he was in the middle of, walked to get the wheel chair and pushed this lady around the store for 45 minutes getting everything she needed. The lady ended up being short $4 and Ben pulled out his wallet and paid for the whole order and told the lady it was her Christmas present. All I can say is wow. Then to see Ben pick right back up where he was at without missing a beat. While I'm still in the store there was a customer that came in screaming because he thought the cashier messed up, Ben walked straight up to the guy, told him to get his self together and he could talk to him from there but he wasn't going to allow the guy to talk to any of his employees in anything but a respectful manner. The guy calmed down, and Ben showed him where it did ring up right and the guy actually was laughing when he left. Fred's in Newberry is the definition of what every single retail store should be. I will definitely be telling everyone that I know. If Ben see's this, thank you so much for the service and the overall experience you provide to your customers. From the child of one of your customer's, it means a lot and gives so much comfort knowing that she will be taken care of when she comes to your store.
Wouldn't recommend it's like a run down version of Dollar tree if you know what I mean except everything cost more.
